Family Time And Some Time To Remember

The joys in life are the ones you make for the people you care for and love.

I feel like that should be on a big sign somewhere, only to make us remember that there’s more to life, that people are important, that relationships are critical, and that bringing joy is even more valuable than receiving it.

Every year, in December, we have the “chance” to remember what is truly precious and what really matters in life.

Family & Friends

From the start, if you’re only speaking to someone just because it’s the holidays, it does not make it right. I don’t think there’s a point in trying to give a relationship meaning just for the sake of it or because it’s “the holidays.” You are either committed or not. Better to be honest with yourself and be real, rather than try and sugarcoat something that isn’t there. In the long term, you will save time, and your honesty will be appreciated.

Sending someone a happy holidays message is useless, especially if the last time you conversed with that person was when you sent him/her a happy holiday message, so, most likely, the year before.

Sure, if you want to start having a relationship with somebody, then yes, the Winter holidays might be a good time to start, as people are usually more open.

I don’t know about you, but for me, having a core loving family always made the holidays feel real special. It doesn’t matter if there’s snow or not, if we’re tired or if we have a million other things to do, you always have to find time to be with and for your family and friends.

When I was a kid, I could barely wait and stay calm, as I was super excited for the Winter break. The days at school got lazier and lazier and time just felt like it was running slower and slower as we were nearing that time of the year.

I wanted to leave for my grandparents and enjoy my time there for 2 or 3 weeks. If it would snow, the morning workout was done by shoveling large piles of snow. The house was warm, and there was plenty of laughter.

Then there was the fact that my grandmother was a baker by nature. When that time of year came, we would help her make hundreds, if not thousands of different cookies and cakes, all for the family and visitors.

It was amazing! I miss them and that feeling of indescribable love and joy.

I would count the days before school would start, and try to do as much as possible to have as much fun as I could.

Presents

For me, it was never about the presents, and it still isn’t, but it is truly something else to see the look of your child when unexpected presents are stuck in one’s boots.

In Europe, on the 5th of December, after dark or during the night, there’s another old, caring man that comes bearing offerings. Saint Nicholas travels on his white horse and gives little gifts to small children, if they’ve been good, of course. If they’ve been naughty, they get a small rod or twig. I presume everyone knows what that is for. I don’t, as I never got one. :)

All you have to do is prepare your boots, clean them up nicely and leave them by the door.

Don’t come telling me that he doesn’t exist or that it is just a myth. I have always cleaned my boots, and I have always found them filled with delicious candy or fruits.

Some people might try to fool you and tell you that there’s no such thing. Do not listen to them as they are probably the naughty ones and are jealous that they didn’t get anything.

Be good, be hopeful, be merry, be better than you were the year before. Or, try, at least. Good things always happen to the people who believe.

Simple Peace

I don’t know if there is anything more than you can ask than to be peaceful and peace itself. There are many other things that you might want or need, but they are so much easier to obtain.

Inner peace and tranquility are hard to get. We only get small concentrated doses, and if we don’t know how to master the skill and attitude to get some more, then we must make do with what we’ve managed to gather.

Now, I don’t know what to tell you. There are many more things that I could go on about, but they will be a bit redundant. You can watch all the holiday-themed commercials and billboards all over the planet.

From me, may you give a lot and receive a lot more in return.
