The Day From Wednesday

And The Winner Is…

It was a day like any other day, well, it was day 12.418, but it is not like someone was counting or anything of the sort. Michael certainly wasn’t counting, but out of all the days in his life, it so happened that today was his birthday. This year, as luck would have it, in a Wednesday.

What is your day counter saying thus far? How many birthdays in slap, bang the middle of the week have you had the chance or opportunity to experience? One should hope, not too many, not too few.

Michael, for example, is doing pretty well. Nowadays, humans have an average life expectancy of around 75 years, give or take a few based on the country or environment they are living in. So that’s around 27.400 days of pure life, excitement, and surprises. Life’s not looking bad for Michael, as he’s still a few thousand days away from the middle of his theoretical, average lifespan.

Good job Michael, you’ve made it this far, either by surviving, living, or, as with most cases, a little bit of both, but with more of the latter, we hope. And now, it’s a Wednesday, and, yes, it should be considered a lucky one. Out of the number of days lived thus far, this is probably Michael’s fifth birthday on a Wednesday. So happy Birth-day or happy Wed-birth, or anything in between, but basically, happy birthday on a Wednesday. Because they are so rare, it should only make Michael and anyone of you want to celebrate it even happier.

In the end, what is a Wednesday? The best explanation is the simplest one, I reckon. It is the day of the week between Tuesday and Thursday, just as Mondays are between Sundays and Tuesdays, or Saturdays, between Fridays and Sundays. It’s just the international standard that’s allowed us to better understand and quantify time.

Don’t be mean to Wednesdays, Mondays, or any other day in-between. It’s hard to count to 27.400, but when you’ve already reached the 12.000 days Michael has, or when you’re closer to half, do you start counting backward or keep adding on? What is your tipping point?

“When did you realize every day is vital?”

Or, better yet, are you not at that point yet? Do you need a push or a “hang on to your life!!!” kind of board message to see how lucky you are?

For the most part, the way you perceive things is just a matter of perspective. Sometimes you need to have a closer look and nitpick, other times, you need to lay a bit back and have a wider view.

Michael’s birthday is going to be great. It doesn’t matter if it’s sunny or a bit windy, maybe a bit cloudy or a bit chilly, if it’s just a workday or a stay-at-home day, if he’s still got a million things to do, or laying in a hammock if he’s having cake or just a little muffin. It doesn’t matter if it’s just a Wednesday, it’s just great to be alive.
