Make Your Christmas Story

Merry, Merry, Merry…Whatever You Desire

It is that time of year. Is it that time of year? What time exactly? The busy time, the present time, the chill time, reflection time, all-around good time, all around exhausting time? Maybe all and none of it. Can you skip it, or would you like to play it on repeat? Do you enjoy it or try not to fall into the hype?

The Time Earned and The Time Lost

I miss my childhood Christmas holidays and winter breaks. If you’ve ever been a kid, scratch that. If ever there was a time when I was waiting with excitement, this was one of it. The others were Easter and the Summer Break. I was a lucky boy. I was able to spend time with my extended family and play, relax, cook, and feel the warmth of the cabin fire.

As soon as the weather outside showed signs of cold and as we were slowly moving from autumn, this was the big thing I was looking forward to. Counting the weeks and then the days were a real thing. There was no need for a calendar, phone, or any other device as it was all stored in the brain box.

I always appreciated those times, if I hadn’t, I probably wouldn’t have been so excited, and now, I would not remember those times so fondly.

Beautiful memories. They always hang on, even in the darkest of times. You remember every smell, every action you used to do, every taste, and every meaningful word. Memories are what bring us together and strengthen our connection.

“The essence of life is making memories.”

I miss the youth, the silly adventures, the people that are now gone, the laughs, the time. Nothing is forever, and we, along with the world around us, constantly change. But time is never lost if we manage to extract its entire “human” potential.

Winter Cometh

I can’t say that I ever wanted Winter to come because I wanted to be cold outside. Nope, still don’t. But I enjoy the snow, and I even appreciated blizzards when they came to pass. Making snowballs and snowmen, shoveling snow, sleighing, skiing, and just hiking through the snow-covered hills makes you feel like you are living on another planet.

It is mesmerizing how the planet can take on a snowy coat and feel totally different. All the views change, and all the places you knew are magical new lands, some are enchanted, others mysterious.

Still, there is one thing about Winter that is truly unique. The silence. This is especially obvious in the countryside, where, most of the time, you can only hear the snow crackle under your winter boots as you make your way to whichever way you need to go.

Winter has always been a time of reflection, a time of cold, but also warmth, and of love.

The Present(s)

Presents are that part of life that makes it more surprising. Is there someone there who can tell me that he or she, does not enjoy getting surprises? You know, little packed one, usually in boxes, or at the very least with a big ribbon, wrapped around them.

Whether you are 3-years old or 63 meters scuba diving under the sea, you still want to know that someone has thought of you and has taken the time to get you a sign of caring. Size, material, or any other physical dimension should not matter as long as you offer it as a symbol of human love.

Same as everybody else, I live in a physical world, and the thought of spending money on those “cadeaux” especially during Christmas time, gives me financial goosebumps. I get over it as I always try to remember two things. The look on someone’s face when that gift will be unwrapped and opened. Also, money was designed to be spent. Usually more of the first and less of the latter. :)

Offer joy if you want to get delighted in return.

All The Other Things

The funny costumes, the carols, and the old stories. The billions upon billions of colored lights, the delicious food, and exquisite cookies and cakes. The smells, the Christmas trees, the bells, the mistletoe, the kids, the love of an entire year crammed into a small, little season.

These, and many other small or huge things are what makes Christmas so damn cute and appealing.

And there are things like what happened last evening once we’ve finished decorating the tree.

“Oooh, little Christmas tree, you are the cutest thing in the world.” this is what the little one said to it once he was all dressed up in fancy clothing. A flurry of hugs and gentle touches on his little branches followed right after. I have recorded it. Every drop of that delicious moment is now forever a part of me.

Yes, this is the X-MAS story I will pick going forward. What you choose and decide is up to you.
